Header 2

Welcome to my beginner area - a space where you can learn the basic steps that I use in my classes in a relaxed, supportive way.

Here, you can pause, replay, and practise the steps as many times as you like, with no pressure and no need to keep up with anyone else.

My aim is to help you build confidence, enjoy moving your body, and have fun along the way. Once you feel ready, you can then try those basic steps out to music with me and start putting everything together.

Remember - everyone starts somewhere, and every step counts. 💕

Individual Step Breakdown - Set 1

Each video breaks down one step at a time, then at the end of the section, we combine the steps and dance them to music.

If you click "Watch on YouTube" - the video will be become full size in a new window on your computer.

Whilst I have put group of steps together with musical rhythms, often steps cross the boundaries between rhythms and can be used in any choreography during the class that fits!

Time to bring those steps together

Let's dance all of the steps we have covered in Set 1 to music. I have repeated the steps often so you can follow along easier.

We are covering:

  • Step taps
  • V - Step
  • Grapevines
  • Chasses

Individual Step Breakdown - Set 2

We are now covering Salsa Basics. Salsa is often quite fast,  however the steps are all in 3's whether forwards, back or side to side.

I offer simplified versions of the steps first and then add more flavour with my hips. Feel free to stay at the basic level and move on when you are ready.

Ok, lets Salsa!

Let's loosen our hips and try all the Salsa steps I have covered in Set 2 together with music.

Our 6 Step did not work with this music, but bank it for future!!

We are covering:

  • Side Salsa
  • Forward Salsa
  • Back Salsa

Individual Step Breakdown - Set 3

Charlston, Jazz Boxes and "Chop"

These steps are regulars in my routines and can be used across lots of rhythms, Charlston being one of them! I use "CHOP" to describe the cutting of the sugar cane step - I am sure you will see why!

Time to put these together

Take your time and enjoy the moves..

We are covering:

  • Charlston
  • Jazz Box
  • Cutting the sugarcane (chop)

Individual Step Breakdown - Set 4

Cross rocks, Flick ball change, rocking chairs and cha cha turns!

Now we are getting into the fun stuff - these step are everywhere in my routines and depending on how any fingers I am holding up, will tell you how many and what direction!

Let's use those cha cha steps!!

These are a little faster and you may need more time to master them. Keep going - you've got this!

We are covering:

  • Forward & Back Chasses
  • Rocking Chair
  • Cross Rock Cha Cha Turn
  • Kick/Flick-Ball-Change
  • Front, Side Cha Cha Cha

Individual Step Breakdown - Set 5

In this section we are covering Reggaeton - this rhythm is basically Latin "hip hop" an has a particular "feel".

Often the steps are done on a bent knee and are more grounded (lower feeling) and have strong arm movements associated with them.

Let's try some Reggeaton

Keep your knees bent, and feel your weigh lower into the ground.

We are covering:

  • Reggaeton Taps or Bounce (I say squish the ants!)
  • Reggaeton Tap Step (side to side)
  • Beto Shuffle
  • Destroza

Stretching Safely

This is a walk through of one of my usual stretch routines that I use at the end of each class.
